VietNamNet Bridge – Saigonees have never witnessed so many rare and beautiful dogs at the same time in the Miss Dog Pageant held in the Dam Sen Cultural Park on Sunday morning.

The dog show was organized based on the standards of the Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI), attracting around 300 dogs. Typical dog species participated in the contest were bulldog (Britain), Rottweiler (Italy and Germany), Chihuahua (Mexico), Becgie, and Phu Quoc from Vietnam.

The organizers invited Thomas Lim, a member of the FCI from Singapore, as the major referee for this contest.

“This is the first time Vietnam has organized a dog show that is up to FCI criteria. The Vietnam Breed Dog Association plans to organize a national dog show on September 2, 2009,” said the association’s Vice Chairman, Nguyen Van Lang.

The association has around 200 members who are professional dog breeders, most of them in HCM City.

According to the FCI, more than 350 species of dogs are recognized in 80 countries around the world.

A family of Dachshund dogs. The mother dog (right) came to the Dam Sen Park to cheer her husband and son.

The Dachshund son passed his father to win the first prize for the Dachshund species.

This Saint Bernard dog comes from Switzerland. He is named Tommy. He has been in Vietnam for six months.

The only Doberman dog entered the final round. The Doberman was created in Germany in 1860 from Pinschers (Germany), Rottweiler, and Beauceron species.

The contest was a chance for dog lovers to boast their pets.
